St Joseph’s Grammar School, Donaghmore celebrated success at the highest level this year as they won the school’s first ever Grade A title. This success came just eleven years after welcoming its first male pupils to the school.
The Year 9/10 boys’ football team competed in the prestigious Danske Bank Ulster Schools Corn na nÓg competition for the first time this year and were successful in going on to lift the Sciath na nÓg Shield by beating Inis Eoghain on a score line of 1-07 to 1-05.
The game was dictated by bad weather and strong winds which saw Donaghmore taking a comfortable lead in the first half, leaving the half time score 1-07 to 0-00 in their favour. However, despite the Donegal team’s resilience in the second half when they managed to keep Donaghmore scoreless, St Joseph’s held on to their lead claimed the school’s first ever Grade A title.
We would like to thank local company McCourt and Maguire Solicitors who kindly sponsored our boys’ team throughout the year. Their guidance and support to the boys helped the team secure the school’s first piece of silverware in a Grade A tournament.
