Collaborative Learning Approach at St. Joseph’s Grammar School Donaghmore

September 2009 saw us embark on an exciting new era in the life of St. Joseph’s Grammar School; it was the beginning of our involvement in the Dungannon Learning Partnership, a sub group of the larger Dungannon and Cookstown Area Learning Community.

This involves a number of schools and colleges in close proximity collaborating in order to provide their students with a wider range of subjects.  This collaborative approach to learning enables our school to offer a wider range of applied and general subjects to our lower sixth pupils as well as pupils from the local learning partnership.

During the academic year 2008/2009 the steering committee of our school, led by Mr Patrick Corrigan, sought to explore the possibility of working with schools and education providers in the Dungannon Learning Partnership.

It was envisaged that through forming links with St. Patrick’s College Dungannon, Drumglass High School Dungannon, Integrated College Dungannon, St. Joseph’s Coalisland and South West College Dungannon the school would continue to progress towards meeting the needs of the Entitlement Framework.

As a result of this process pupils from our school and partner schools have been able to access a much broader range of general and applied subjects since September 2009.  St. Joseph’s Grammar school hope to build on the successes of the existing collaborative structures through 2013 and beyond in order to maximise curricular opportunity for our pupils.
